Marmion Academy 54, Kankakee 38

Marmion Academy rolled past Kankakee 54-38 in the opening game Monday.
The Cadets were led by their 6-foot-6 senior C Mark Peters, who scored 23 points and hauled in 12 rebounds in the Cadets sixth-consecutive victory.
Using nine first-quarter points by Peters, Marmion (6-4) jumped out to a 14-9 first-quarter lead.
In the second quarter, Cadet senior G Tyler Hlavac (14 points) nailed a couple of treys to extend the Cadet lead to 26-17 at the break.
Marmion outcored Kankakee (4-4) 14-6 in the third quarter to essentially put this one in the "W" column for the Suburban Christian Conference squad. Peters scored eight in the stanza.The Cadets entered the final quarter with a 40-23 lead.
"Coach (Rashon) Burno had us well prepared for Kankakee," said Peters. "We executed our game plan well. I play very hard and try to do the best I can. I had a very good game today."
In the fourth quarter Hlavac struck for eight points to finish off the Kays.
Senior G Greg Askwith added seven points and six boards for the Cadets. Six-foot-4 senior F John Mason had six points, five rebounds, two
blocks and a steal for a fine all-around game for Marmion.
"We were ready for Kankakee and their pressing defense," said Burno. "We ran our offense well and were able to go inside and get a number of easy baskets."
