Plainfield Central 85, Aurora Central 59

Plainfield Central and Aurora Central put on an entertaining shoot out for the first half of their opening round game.

Plainfield Central led 45-39 behind 20 points from 6-foot-6 senior C Winston Williams. Aurora Central stand-out senior G Joey Guth led the Chargers with 17 first-half points.

"Let's play some defense,"  said Plainfield Central head coach Steve Lamberti to his Wildcats at intermission.

The Wildcats listened  to their coach. Guth scored one point in the second half and Plainfield Central scored an 85-59 blow-out victory.

Williams finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds to pace Plainfield Central (6-2). Wildcat 6-foot-3 junior G Derek Marks scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half.

"We didn't play any defense," said Williams. "I had a good game and this was a good win for us."

Marks put an exclaimation point on the Wildcat victory with 6:21 left when he stole the ball and finished with a thunderous slam that delighted the Wildcat faithful.

In the last 1:41 of the first half Williams had three consecutive old-fashioned, three-point plays.

"Winston is a quality player," said Lamberti. "He had a super first half for us. We finally played defense in the second half and went on to the win."

Wildcat 6-foot-7 junior F Justin Scanlon added 10 points and six rebounds for the winners. Senior G Teo Ervin contibuted 12 points and four rebounds.

Aurora Central (6-3) was led by junior G Ryan Herreld's 13 points.
