Marist (15-6) plowed under Lake Zurich with a 31-2 run and crushed the Bears 56-35 in the McDonald's Shootout Monday at Willowbrook.
RedHawk freshman sensation Jetaun Rouse scored 19 of her 24 points during the 31-2 crushing move.
"I played poorly in the first half, but I really played well during our 31-2 exlosion," said Rouse. "This was a good win and we played well."
Lake Zurich (7-15), paced by 5-foot-9 senior Gabby Chapa, led for most of the first half. Chapa tallied 12 points for the Bears.
Marist freshman Leah Bolton (12 points, seven rebounds, four steals, four assists) scored 10 points in the first half to keep Marist in the game.
Lake Zurich led 24-17 with two minutes to go in the half, when Marist senior Haley Stercic (12 points) hit a free throw to begin the end for the Bears. Rouse scored two quick buckets and Stercic another to close out the half with a 7-0 Marist run, and a 24-24 tie.
Rouse scored 14 of the RedHawks' points in a 22-2 Marist third-quarter advantage. Rouse completed the 31-2 Marist runaway by scoring the first two points of the final quarter.
"We made some adjustments at the half and then my amazing freshman Jetaun Rouse took over," stated Marist head coach Mary Pat Connolly. "My other freshman Leah Bolton had a great first half to help us when we were struggling."
Six-foot Lake Zurich senior Audrey Bauer scored 11 points and had six rebounds for the Bears.
