Illinois teams sweep out-of-state foes

Schools from the Land of Lincoln blanked the out-of-state guests at the 20th Annual McDonald's Girls Shootout this weekend at Willowbrook. Illinois' finest repelled invaders in seven contests.
No. 6 Fenwick (18-2) defeated Indiana's defending Class 4A champion, North Central of Indianapolis, Saturday. Then on Monday senior Trisha Liston scored a shootout-record 43 points while the Friars defeated St. Joseph Academy (12-4) of St. Louis 66-52.
Mid-Suburban League East powers No. 14 Elk Grove and Wheeling (19-3) joined in the party Monday morning.
Elk Grove, led by its senior dynamic duo of 6-foot Ashley Capotosto and 6-foot-4 Courtney Lindfors, sent the previously undefeated and No. 3-ranked Kokomo (14-1) Lady Kats, back home to Indiana with a 69-65 overtime defeat. Capotosto scored 30 and Lindfors added 21 for the Grenadiers (17-3).
Wheeling took out Carmel (Ind.) 67-59. Seniors Janelle Cannon (22 points), Stephanie Kuzmanic (19 points) and Bianca Szafarowicz (15 points) led the assault on Carmel (11-5) Indiana's 14th-ranked team.
Chicago Public League Red-South power No. 16 Bogan demolished North Central 58-37 behind 23 points from 5-foot-11 senior Lynette Holmes. The Lady Bengals returned to the Premium Preps Sweet 16 this week.
Defending Class A State Champ Hinckley-Big Rock scored the first 25 points in the Lady Royals 65-38 win over Oregon-Davis (Ind.). Senior Jenna Thorp scored 22 points for Hinckley-Big Rock. The Lady Royals improved to 19-2 on the season. Oregon-Davis fell to 13-4.
No.1 Young rolled past Carmel 67-40.
In a all-Illinois contest Monday,Bishop McNamara (12-6) blasted Maine West 56-23 behind 25 points from junior Erika Tatum.
