Tom Buell (bottom, 35-14), of Lincoln-Way West, is locked up by Christopher Tucker (34-7), of East St. Louis. The Class 2A, 113-pound semifinal wrestleback bout ended with a 10-6 Tucker win.

 

 


 

Brady Wilsie (top, 43-7) has Stillman Valley's Jared Van Sleet (24-11) fighting off his back in their Class 1A, 113-pound wrestleback semifinal. Wilsie, of Byron, didn't let up and advanced to the third place match with a 9-3 win.

 

 


 

Getting in deep for the takedown, Lyon's Zach Villareal (right, 37-13) wraps up Oswego's Andrew McFall (41-6). The Class 3A, 120-pound wrestleback bout went McFall's way with a 5-3 decision.

 

 


 

Marmion's A.J. Jaffe (right, 37-8) looks for an opening against Garrett Dziedzic (31-13), of Crystal Lake South, in their Class 3A, 132-pound semifinal wrestleback. Jaffe advanced after the 7-4 decision.

 

 


 

Oak Park and River Forest's Jaime Hernandez (left, 32-9) tries to contain Wheaton North's Dylan Thurston (44-7) during their close 132-pound, semifinal wrestleback bout in Class 3A. Hernandez took away the 3-2 win.

 

 


 

Looking to rebound after his first loss of the season, Jose Champagne (top), of Marian Catholic, took it to Gabe Pleasants (39-4), of Morton, in their Class 2A, 126-pound semifinal wrestleback. Champagne (38-1) ended the bout early with a 26-11 tech fall. 

 

 


 

Daniel Andress (right, 40-5) of Conant, takes a quick breather before resuming his exchange with Mt. Carmel's David Rojas (38-10). The Class 3A, 160-pound, semifinal wrestleback went Andress' way with a 7-3 decision.

 

 


 

El Paso-Gridley's Gabe McKinley (left, 43-9) tries to fight off a cradle hold by Clinton's Logan Winter (37-9) in the semifinal wrestleback at 160 pounds in Class 1A action. A single point was scored in the bout -- McKinley got it and advanced.

 

 


 

Carson Oughton (right, 40-3), of Minooka, looks to control Brian Krasowski (35-9), of Sandburg. The Class 3A, 170-pound semifinal wrestleback bout went to an ultimate tie-breaker. Oughton won 3-2 and advanced to the third place match.

 

 


 

Attempting a takedown of Glenbard North's Kirk Johansen, Joliet West's Darvell Flagg (33-6) tries to repeat his tournament upset of Johansen, this time for the Class 3A third place medal at 106 pounds. Johansen (46-2) turned the tables for a 3-0 win.

 

 


 

Clashing heads, Prairie Ridge's Travis Piotrowski (left) and Montini's Will Lewan (29-15) go at it in the Class 2A, 120-pound third place bout. Piotrowski (34-1) shut out the freshman Bronco and posted an 8-0 major decison.

 

 


 

Oak Park and River Forest's Richard Townsell (left) keeps up the attack on Brother Rice's Julian Blanco (37-5) in their third place, Class 3A bout. Townsell (36-7) maintained the pressure and gained a 5-2 decision in the 126-pound division.

 

 


 

Drake Boverie (left, 42-4), of Civic Memorial, tries to get free from Lincoln-Way West's Noah Keefe in the Class 3A, 132-pound third place bout. Earlier in the state tournament, Keefe defeated Boverie 8-4. He repeated the result, this time posting a 7-6 decision.

 

 


 

A.J. Jaffe, of Marmion, makes sure Oak Park and River Forest opponent Jaime Hernandez (32-9) feels all the pressure of the third place, Class 3A, 132-pound bout. Jaffe (37-8) cranked his way to a 4-2 decision win.

 

 


 

After suffering his first loss of the season earlier in the tournament, Alton's Phyllip DeLoach (right, 40-2) does all he can to prevent a repeat and holds tight to Belleville West's Nick Foster (35-8). Foster didn't cooperate. He escaped in overtime to win 3-2 in the Class 3A, 145-pound third place bout.

 

 


 

Trace Carello, of Marmion (right), stymied Conant's Daniel Andress (40-5) in the Class 3A, 160-pound third place bout. Carello (23-4) dominated in a 10-2 major decision.

 


 

Christian Brunner (left, 44-2), of Dundee-Crown, suffered a rare takedown when Lockport's Tyler Johnson (21-2) snagged his leg in the opening period of their Class 3A, 195-pound bout. Brunner took home the third place medal with an 8-2 decision.
