The Addison Cowboys have begun practicing for the up-coming season and a large number of parents blanket the sidelines watching every detail of practice. Yup, that gridiron madness is very contagious.

to make history repeat itself

The Northside Prep boys cross country team enjoyed the sweet taste of success in 2008. The Mustangs won their first IHSA regional, and broke the school record for wins.
They've got their aim locked on another memorable season, but the task will not be easy. With three of their top 12 runners from 2008 graduated (Jon Kittaka, Craig Melhuse and Simon Vecchioni), Northside knows it's got work to be done.

Hope springs eternal

Wednesday an annual ritual that brings great joy to football fans began on practice fields throughout the state. The first day of football practice commenced at 563 Illinois high schools; from Galena to Cairo; from Zion to East Saint Louis; and all points in between.
From early workouts without pads, through the dreaded two-a-days, leading up to the final preparations for the opening game, Illinois’ gridiron warriors began toiling in the hot August sun.

Football up next for Premium Preps
On August 12 563 Illinois high school football teams begin their first day of practice. Each of those 563 unblemished football squads share a single dream. They all want to play for a state championship on Thanksgiving weekend in Memorial Stadium on the campus of the University of Illinois.
Drake Skleba will be there for the journey as Premium Preps' new high school correspondent. Drake will provide in-depth game coverage of our Friday and Saturday game of the week. His reports will include: starting line ups; complete game statistics; a quarter-by-quarter game report; and post-game interviews with coaches, players and fans from both teams.
The sideline reports highlight Premium Preps' seven-day-a-week coverage which will include features like: The Coaches Corner, a weekly forum for the area's top head coaches; sophomore game coverage; and state rankings.
Drake will also blog about the big games statewide each week.

Chicago Select squeaks by Windsor
Big second half delivers one-point win

Forcing and taking advantage of mistakes, and then creating opportunities of their own, a Chicago Select squad squeaked out a 23-22 victory over the Windsor Boys School team on the Fourth of July at the Illinois Blaze Rugby Club’s grounds.
“We didn’t know what was going to happen with the rain and everything for those of us in the back line," Chicago Select player Matt Lancor said. “It’s nice to win, definitely.”

Rugby not the only thing on Windsor agenda

American hospitality showed no bounds as Chicago-area rugby players and their families hosted two teams of tourists from the Windsor Boys School in England.
Not only did the U.S. teams house, feed and provide some sightseeing for their visitors, they also somehow managed to arrange for some very British weather as well.

A middle school barnburner in Lemont
Arlington, Palatine co-op tied 31-31 with 90 seconds to play

The wildest game played on Monday no doubt occurred on the elevated pitch in Lemont.
The Arlington Stallions ultimately topped the Palatine co-op squad, 41-31, in a middle school contest that was tied 31-31 with only 90 seconds left in regulation.
“I told you it would be a good one,” said Arlington coach Dan Bartlett.
